Knitting, crocheting, sewing, baking–all things crafty and creative have forever been part of my life. Perhaps it’s because I grew up with a mother who was an elementary school teacher, but I’m more inclined to believe that creativity, especially with yarn and thread, are part of my DNA.
For some, creativity manifests behind the lens of a camera or when weaving stories across the pages of a novel but for me I find myself most engaged when holding two knitting needles and a skein of yarn in my hands. This discovery was only recent–as with many creative types, I’ve dappled in much and find trying new mediums inspiring, but at the end of the day it’s my knitting needles that bring me comfort. They calm my mind.
I’ve often noted that I’d like to capture my journey as a knitter with words and images. As a Hamilton College graduate (Class of 2005), writing as not only the conveyance of thought but the expression of meaning is integral to my routine approach to communication. In my mind, I could not think of a better way to convey my two passions but than to bring words, and thus meaning, to what I consider one of my greatest creative passions–knitting. My husband brought this ambition to fruition, helping me set-up this blog and *hopefully* a storefront in the future to sell my creations. But for now, I’m content allowing my fingers to do the talking–on the keyboard and with yarn.
I hope you’ll join me on my journey as I continue to weave my story one skein at a time.
